Field Spec Explorer Prototype VS Production
We want to make sure there are no surprises when pre-ordering the Field Spec Explorer. With that being said, we want to detail 3 changes that are happening from the prototypes to the complete production run. All but one of the changes is likely to be noticed, but we wanted to make sure to detail them all.
Hollow Plunge Grind
The plunges radius on the hollow ground Sheepsfoot and Bowie Tanto prototypes were too large, creating a thicker edge towards the heal of the sharpened edge. This is an issue because as you sharpen the knife, the edge becomes uneven towards the heal, creating what some people call “a half smiley face”.
The production run has a tighter plunge radius that will not leave half smiley faces at the heal of the blade.
Handle Chamfer
In the prototypes, and the handmade examples of the Explorer model, the area where your pointer and index finger rest has a smaller chamfer than the rest of the handle.
On the production run, this chamfer has been increased to provide a more ergonomic feel, and to provide additional kydex retention.
Sheepfoot Swedge
The Sheepfoot blade shape has a deeper swedge.
